Elon Musk has been quite open and frank about his plans to colonise planet Mars and his aerospace company SpaceX has been working in that direction for years now. A number of rumours have surfaced in the past about the man himself and his plans, some were pretty controversial. Recently another rumour has surfaced on social media platforms according to which Musk has pledged to donate sperm to populate a Martian colony.
It has generated quite a buzz on social media platforms. The tech titan has now refuted these claims and said that has not volunteered his sperm.
What Actually Went Down
A user shared the images of a report by the New York Times and tweeted, "NYT reports on Elon Musk's plan to colonize Mars. He hopes to have one million people living there within twenty years and has volunteered his sperm. Practically every company Musk has founded is to help with this mission, which involves bioengineering humans better capable of living on Mars. In a time of cynicism, there just aren't many men who dream like this. Probably rare in any era. We should all be in awe."
This made Musk respond. The X owner said, “Best to hear it in the words I have used in many interviews over the years. I have not fwiw ‘volunteered my sperm’. No one at SpaceX has been directed to work on a Mars city. When people have asked to do so, I’ve said we need to focus on getting there first.”
The user did not stop after reading this though. He said, "There’d be nothing wrong if you did! Someone’s sperm has to get there."
Soon the comment section turned into a joke contest about how eager the user was about Musk's 'donation'.
