The Jalandhar West assembly seat was closely contested in the bypolls. Traditionally, the seat has chosen fresh candidates every time. However, this year, the Aam Aadmi Party has managed to repeat its win.

In 2012, BJP won the seat, while in 2017 the voters of the constituency chose Congress. In the 2022 elections, the AAP secured a win.

The result of the by-election has come in contrast to the recent Lok Sabha elections. In fact, in the Lok Sabha elections, Congress had come first on this seat, while BJP had come second and Aam Aadmi Party had come third. In this by-election, AAP has come first, BJP second and Congress third.
