Amid growing calls to withdraw Matt Gaetz’s nomination for Attorney General due to allegations of sexual misconduct, Elon Musk has stepped in to offer his support. Musk dismissed the accusations as "less than nothing" and emphasised the principle of innocence until proven guilty. "Under our laws, a man is considered innocent until proven guilty," Musk posted, adding sharp criticism of current Attorney General Merrick Garland, whom he described as "an unprincipled douchebag."
Allegations and Investigations
Gaetz, who recently resigned from Congress, faced scrutiny during his tenure for alleged misconduct, including accusations of sexual relations with a 17-year-old and attending drug-fueled parties. While the Department of Justice declined to file charges, the House Ethics Committee launched its own investigation.
However, with Gaetz stepping down, his attorney general nomination places the status of the committee's findings in limbo. Some Republican lawmakers are now pushing for the report to be made public.
Gaetz has consistently denied all allegations, calling them baseless. In previous statements, he argued that accusations of travelling with a minor or engaging in illicit activities were fabricated and unsupported by evidence.
Musk’s Take: Gaetz as the "Hammer of Justice"
In a series of social media posts, Musk offered an enthusiastic endorsement of Gaetz, praising his intellect, resilience, and determination. Musk likened Gaetz to a real-life Judge Dredd, saying, “Gaetz will be our Hammer of Justice to clean up a corrupt system and hold powerful wrongdoers accountable.”
Musk dismissed the allegations against Gaetz, arguing that if Garland’s DOJ had sufficient evidence to convict, they would have acted. "Case closed," Musk declared, expressing confidence in Gaetz’s capability to serve as Attorney General.

US Senate Hurdles and Trump's Role
Gaetz’s path to confirmation remains uncertain, as the Senate must approve his appointment. However, speculation is rife that former President Donald Trump may bypass the Senate to secure his preferred candidates. Gaetz’s controversial past, combined with Musk’s outspoken support, sets the stage for a contentious nomination process.
A Look Back: The Allegations
The allegations against Gaetz date back to his early days in Congress. Reports claimed he had inappropriate relationships, attended illicit parties, and made payments through an intermediary to women who later testified before the ethics panel. Gaetz vehemently denied these accusations, stating they were politically motivated.
Despite the cloud of controversy, Gaetz’s wife, Ginger Luckey Gaetz, has remained supportive, standing by him throughout the public and legal scrutiny.
With opinions sharply divided, Gaetz’s nomination is likely to remain a focal point in the political arena, with Musk’s vocal backing adding fuel to the debate.
