OpenAI's viral artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ChatGPT app for iPhone users is now available in 32 countries, including India. The company, headquartered in San Francisco, officially launched the ChatGPT app for iOS last week in the US and announced plans to expand its availability to other countries in the near future.
The list of new countries where ChatGPT is available for iOS includes Algeria, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Estonia, Ghana, India, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Lithuania, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mexico, Morocco, Namibia, Nauru, Oman, Pakistan, Peru, Poland, Qatar, Slovenia, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates.
OpenAI claims that the app provides seamless synchronisation of user history across devices and incorporates the latest enhancements of the OpenAI model.
Within the first few days of its launch in the United States on May 18, the ChatGPT mobile app crossed the half a million downloads mark, making it one of the highest-performing new apps, outpacing other AI chatbot apps from the likes of Microsoft Edge and Bing apps, when it comes to downloads, as per the data shared by app intelligence company data.ai.
The ChatGPT app is currently available as a free app and does not include ads. The app alsp lets users interact with the AI-based chatbot using their iPhone and also supports voice inputs through a speech recognition system Whisper made by OpenAI. There is an option to subscribe to ChatGPT Plus service, which is a premium subscription and costs $20 per month in the US, and can be purchased via the iOS app.
Meanwhile, in a recent blog post, the company had mentioned: "The release of the ChatGPT app for iOS is a significant milestone in our mission to transform cutting-edge research into practical tools that empower individuals, while continuously enhancing accessibility."
The app offers instant responses that provide accurate information without the inconvenience of advertisements or multiple search results. It caters to a wide range of interests and needs, including personalised advice on travel, do-it-yourself projects, cooking, and crafts.
