ICC Women’s T20 World Cup: A Brief History
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, first held in 2009, has grown to become one of the premier global sporting events, offering women a stage to showcase their cricketing talent. This year, ten teams will participate, including defending champions Australia, who are vying for their seventh title.

Same Prize Money For The First Time
A significant feature of this edition is the historic equalisation of prize money. For the first time in ICC history, the women’s teams will be awarded the same prize money as the men’s teams, with the tournament winner taking home a prize of $2.34 million. This move reflects the growing focus on gender equality in sports and adds extra significance to the event.
The teams are divided into two groups of five, competing in a round-robin format during the group stage. India is placed in Group A alongside Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and Pakistan.
