Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and state general secretary Pankaj Yadav was shot in Bihar's Munger on Thursday morning. He was shot during his morning walk. Locals rushed him to the hospital in a critical state. According to reports, he is out of danger at the moment.

Pankaj Yadav was taking his morning walk at the airport grounds in the Safia Sarai police station area just as usual. Local media reported that three miscreants were waiting there to ambush him. They sped past him on a bike and opened fire around 5 AM. The assailants have not been identified yet.

Pankaj Yadav reportedly sustained three bullet injuries in the incident. The police were on alert after the incident and launched an investigation.

Pankaj Yadav was arrested in May 2024 during the Lok Sabha elections after he was accused of intimidating voters.

Over the past few weeks, RJD chairman Tejashwi Yadav has been criticising the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar over the "failing law and order situation" in the state. Last week in an X post, he listed several instances of crimes against women in various districts of Bihar to target the Nitish Kumar administration.

Soon after Thursday's incident, RJD spokesperson Ejaz Ahmed slammed the Nitish Kumar administration, questioning his model of governance. "Is this 'good governance'? Leaders of Opposition parties are being shot. There is not much difference in the situation of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar now. Crime and criminals are dominant in Bihar. It is clearly visible that the credibility of the government has ended. Crime and criminals are happy in Bihar and the administration is in a shambles. People in the government are busy reaping the benefits of crime," Ahmed said.
