A doctor was shot dead inside Nima Hospital, Jaitpur under the Kalindi Kunj police station area, police said on Thursday. CCTV footage was being examined to identify the accused, they added. As per hospital staff, two men had come to the hospital with an injury, after dressing they had demanded to meet the doctor and shot him dead once they entered his cabin, police added.






 


Initial investigation has revealed that the shooters were two boys, approximately aged 16 to 17. They came to the hospital at around 1 am. One of the boys had an injured toe, which had been dressed the previous night at the same hospital by staff member Mohammad Kamil, a police officer said.


They went to the cabin of Dr Javed Akhtar, a Unani practitioner, for a prescription and soon the nursing staff heard a gunshot. When They rushed to the doctor’s cabin, where Dr Akhtar was lying in a pool of blood.


"The two boys also came to the hospital the previous night, got the dressing done, and left. Prima facie it is a case of targeted killing as it is unprovoked and the assailants had done recce the previous night," Rajesh Deo, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East), said.


This incident comes a month after a man was shot dead outside a gym in south Delhi's Greater Kailash. The shooter had fired 11 bullets at the man. The victim died in hospital on Thursday. The shooter conducted surveillance for about an hour before committing the murder. They lingered around the gym, and as soon as they got the opportunity, they killed the man.
