Chennai: An hour before Tamil Nadu Finance Minister PTR Palanivel Thiaga Rajan was set to release a white paper on the state’s finances on Monday, AIADMK leader and former chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said that it is wrong to say that the AIADMK government has mismanaged the state finance in a big way.

Last week, the finance minister had announced that he will release a 120-page white paper on the state’s finances on Monday.

Speaking to reporters in Salem, he said that the loans that were obtained during the AIADMK government, were invested in several projects, and even when the AIADMK government took charge in 2011, the state was reeling under loan burden.

He said we need to implement multiple development projects to develop a state and for which, we need to obtain loans. Not just Tamil Nadu, several states in the country have obtained loans to implement developmental projects, he added.

During the AIADMK period, we hadn’t increased electricity tariff even though expenses including employees’ salary and price of raw materials had gone up and as a result, we ended up bearing losses, he said and added that even during the DMK period, the loss had incurred.

Pointing out that the DMK government is nearing its first 100 days of the ruling, he said that the present government is inaugurating only those projects that were implemented during the previous government and they had not implemented many of the projects that were in their election manifesto.

“What happened to the DMK’s claim of scrapping NEET examination and bringing down the price of petrol and diesel immediately after swearing-in,” he questioned.
