Ex-CM Karunanidhi is yet again set to get a place back on the pedestal in Anna Salai after 35 years.
Chennai: Vice President Venkaiah Naidu is set to unveil the statue of former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Anna Salai in Chennai on Saturday. The statue will be 16-foot and will be installed on a pedestal at the Government Omandurar Hospital.
Karunanidhi is yet again set to get a place back on the pedestal on Anna Salai after 35 years since AIADMK supporters vandalized the statue on Anna Salai at the time of former CM MGR's death in 1987.
On December 24, 1987, Karunanidhi after the images of vandalization was published in the newspapers, said that he was relieved since his young brothers (AIADMK party workers) stabbed him in the chest and not on his back.
However, Karunanidhi still did not take up the idea of reinstalling another statue again due to the possibility that it will be vandalized again, said a report in Deccan Herald.
Yet, TN CM Stalin after taking power announced in the Assembly last year that the statue would be reinstalled in Anna Salai.
