Chennai: The lone BJP candidate who won Ward 134 in Chennai in Tamil Nadu Urban Local Body Polls is a supporter of Nathuram Godse, the man who shot Mahatma Gandhi. The BJP candidate Uma Anandhan won Ward 134 from West Mambalam by defeating the Congress candidate by a margin of 2,036 votes on Tuesday.
Earlier, the candidate Anandhan create a stir during an interview to a YouTube channel where she said, Caste is the culture of India and without culture there is nothing. Even Godse who shot Gandhi was a Hindu and that is why it's proud.
"I'm a supporter of Godse," Anandhan was quoted as saying by ABP Nadu.
Initially, there were rumours on social media that the candidate received only eight votes and is set to face a defeat. However, she won with a margin of over 2,000 votes.
During campaigning talking to reporters, BJP's H Raja accompanied by the candidate said, "From the morning, we are campaigning and with our campaign I can surely say that BJP will bring a big change in Chennai local body polls."
The BJP has bagged the ward just as anticipated.

However, Anandhan refused to speak about the controversial interview once she won from the constituency.
On her work for the people, Anandhan said, she would carry out flood mitigation works in the area. The ward will also be changed into a model ward with the implementation of schemes launched by PM Modi.
Anandhan also encouraged the people to interact with her on the issues they face every day and promised that she will carry out works to solve them transparently.
