Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to reconsider the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) scheme.
A statement from the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) said that the chief minister in his letter said that the assets of public sector undertakings (PSUs) were public assets and many of these assets had played an important role in placing India as an industrial and self-reliant nation.
Both the state government and the public had given their land to create public assets, he said and added that hence, people have rights and pride over these PSUs.
According to the statement, Stalin further said in his letter that they don’t know what kind of impact it will create on the Indian economy, employees of PSUs and other enterprises that are dependent on the PSUs.
“Considering the present economic situation of the country, this kind of a massive privatization activity, no matter what it is called as, will put invaluable government assets into the hands of a few groups or large private institutions,” he added, as per the statement.

The statement further said that Stalin has requested the Prime Minister to reconsider his decision regarding the scheme and discuss with the state governments that have these PSUs before taking final decision on its implementation.
Meanwhile, Congress members staged a massive protest opposing the BJP government’s National Monetisation Pipeline scheme in Kanyakumari district. Tiruvallur MP K Jayakumar, Kanyakumari MP Vijay Vasanth and Congress members participated in the protest.
