TN BJP Chief Annamalai Says Governors Should Avoid Talking About Politics

Annamalai said, Governor should not address the press, not talk politics since it "sets a wrong precedent.

Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai advised Governors to not give press meets on a regular basis. He also advised them to refrain from commenting on politics since it would set a "wrong precedent". 

When a question was posed before Annamalai on Governor RN Ravi giving seldom press meets while Telangana Governor addressing the press regularly, he said, "If Tamil Nadu Governor meets the press no person will be happier than me since he will expose the DMK."

However, Governor should not address the press, not talk politics since it "sets a wrong precedent, he said, as per IANS. 

Annamalai said that a Governor should only discharge his or her duty.

A governor should only perform his duty as per the Constitution, he said. 

Annamalai said: "Even if I was from the ruling party I would have advised the Governor not to talk politics as it sets the wrong precedent. Once a year or in six months, they can give interviews to print media. That is okay. That is how it was and that is how it should be. I don't want to comment about other Governors. It's their style of functioning."

Annamalai said that there was a difference between BJP criticising DMK and Governor criticizing DMK so if the Governor has a genuine criticism then he should mention about it in the Assembly. 

Meeting the press on a regular basis will make Govenor's position meaningless, he said.

On DMK demanding answers from Governor by putting up posters, Annamalai said that the DMK should understand where it would lead if DMK expects answers from Governor for everything. A Governor is not a politician but if DMK wants an answer Governor can be told to meet the press at Raj Bhavan. 

"Is the DMK ready for that? He should not speak to the press as that would set a wrong example," he said.
