Tamil Nadu: Woman Police Officer Dies In Secretariat After Tree Falls On Her Due To Heavy Rains

The police soon rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem in Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.

Chennai: A woman police officer working in Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin's special cell in the Secretariat building of Geroge Town died after a tree got uprooted due to the recent rains in Chennai and fell on her. A few other police personnel who were standing nearby at the campus also reportedly minor suffered injuries. 

According to a report on ABP Nadu, a woman head constable, Kavitha, who was on security duty died on the spot after a tree got uprooted and fell on her in Tamil Nadu Secretariat building in George Town of Chennai. The incident took place just in front of the Chief Minister's special cell.

The police soon rushed to the spot and sent the body for post-mortem in Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. The police personnel is also involved in clearing the uprooted tree from the spot.

Taking a note of the incident, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said, he is saddened by the demise of the police head constable Kavitha of Muthialpet police station. The Chief Minister then announced Rs 10 lakh compensation to the kin of the deceased.

Meanwhile, the heavy rains started impounding Chennai from late Monday night and rains are predicted for the next 3 days. Due to the heavy rains, Tamil Nadu government announced rain holiday for schools in Chennai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvannamalai and Kodaikanal on Monday.

The India Meteorological Department has also predicted heavy rains with thunderstorms in Delta districts Cuddalore, Madurai, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram and Kanyakumari districts on Monday.

The Regional Meteorological Department has also warned fishermen from venturing into the sea since winds are expected to blow at a speed of 40-50 Km in Kumari and Gulf Of Mannar regions. Also, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Maldives and the Arabian sea are also likely to experience gusty winds.
