Chennai: A mother strangled her 20-year-old daughter to death after she refused to marry a man of her choice from her caste in Tirunelveli district on Wednesday. The murder of the young woman is suspected to be a case of caste killing.

According to The New Indian Express, the 25-year-old woman has been identified as P Aruna. Aruna was from Most Backward Community (MBC) and she was reportedly in a relationship with a man from a Backward Community (BC). Recently, the murder reportedly took place when the young woman opened up about her love for her mother.

Sources told TNIE, Aruna was a student at a private nursing college in Coimbatore. She was in love with a man and she also wanted to marry him.

Recently she called her mother and informed her about her love.

However, her mother Arumugakani told her to come back home to discuss about the issue. As a result, Aruna went home after six months.
