Tamil Nadu Woman Dies After Trying To Deliver Baby At Home, Husband Detained
The couple reportedly believed in "naturopathy" and decided not to go to the hospital for the delivery of their first child.
A 27-year-old woman who tried to deliver a baby at home developed complications after childbirth and died in Puliyampatti near Pochampalli on Tuesday. The woman and her husband were both graduates but allegedly decided not to go to the hospital for the delivery of the first child. They reportedly believed in "naturopathy". The police have now detained the man for inquiry.
The victim M Loganayagi (27) of Puliyampatti married D Madesh (27) of Hanumanthapuram in Dharmapuri district. Loganayagi who was staying with her husband throughout the pregnancy traveled to her hometown in Krishnagiri for delivery ten days back.
On Tuesday, Loganayaki allegedly developed pain at 4.30 AM and she delivered a baby boy. However, her husband and the family members who helped her with the delivery found it difficult to remove the placenta. At 10:30 AM, they took her to a hospital in Pochampalli but the doctors declared her brought dead and sent the body for post-mortem, said a report in The New Indian Express.
Further, the hospital informed the health officials. Later, the officials visited the village. Director of Public Health Selvavinayagam told TNIE that the couple refused to go to the hospital for delivery even after the village nurse tried to follow up with them.
Krishnagiri RDO S Babu said that a case was registered based on the complaint given by Perugopanapalli PHC doctor Radhika under section 174(3) of CrPC. The police detained the husband for inquiry. The neighbours also alleged that the man used to watch home births on YouTube channels, reported Times of India.
The DSP told TOI that the man will be arrested if charges are confirmed.
After the autopsy, the hospital handed over the body of Loganayagi for last rites. The newborn baby is also currently provided treatment at Government Hospital in Pochampalli.
