Chennai: Kanyakumari Chief Educational Officer Pugazhendi Wednesday ordered a probe into the allegations levelled by students against a tailoring teacher that she preached a particular religion during the class hours at Kannatuvilai Government School.
According to a report by ABP Nadu, the students alleged that the teacher, Piyatris Thangam, was attempting to preach Christianity during class hours. They said the teacher forced them to stitch a particular religious symbol before taking to stitching other designs. They also said that the teacher forced them to offer prayers during the class hour.

"The teacher keeps saying that Bible is the best book while Bhagwad Gita should not be followed. The teacher also preaches the versus of Bible," the ABP Nadu report quoted a student as saying.
Responding to the students' accusation, Kanyakumari CEO Pugazhendi said they have received information about certain incidents that took place in Kannatuvilai Government School, and that the matter will be probed.

He said, "I have ordered district education officer to visit the school and conduct a probe. Once the details of the probe are out, we will decide on the next course of action."
"While there's no ban on discussing or debating important topics with students, a particular religion should not be promoted or propagated among the students," the CEO said.
Pugazhendi also said action will be taken against the teacher if the allegations against her are found to be true.
