Tamil Nadu Rains 2021: Chennai Receives Rains As Depression In Bay Of Bengal Moves Closer To Coast
Heavy rains started pouring in the early hours of Thursday with a depression forming in the Southwest Bay of Bengal
Chennai: Chennai is now getting back to normalcy after taking a severe beating from the torrential rains last week. But, there is no respite for the people of the city and the adjoining districts as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert in the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. As a result, Heavy rains started pouring in the early hours of Thursday with a depression forming in the Southwest Bay of Bengal.
IMD further warned that the depression to west-northwestwards towards the coast of Andhra Pradesh and make landfall in the early hours of Friday at the coast of Andhra Pradesh. Meanwhile, there would be heavy rains in the coastal region of Tamil Nadu, informed IMD.

In a Tweet, IMD said, "A depression has formed over southwest Bay of Bengal at 0830 hours IST of today, the 18th November about 310 km southeast of Chennai. To move west-northwestwards and cross north TN and adjoining south AP coasts by the early morning of 19th Nov."

IMD also said that fishermen are not advised to venture into the seas as rough to very rough sea conditions are likely to prevail along the coast of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh.

Chennai and the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu have already received light showers on Wednesday evening while IMD predicts that there will be thunderstorms in the coastal cities of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Meanwhile, the government has announced that the shutting of schools and colleges in the state for two days expecting severe rains as predicted by the IMD.
