Tamil Nadu is battling a flood scare amid heavy rains in the state leading to the inundation of several areas, houses and building complexes. Indian Army's rescue team has reached Srivaikuntam to support the relief efforts as residents struggle to survive amidst raging water.


News agency PTI shared a video of rescue teams distributing food, and essential items and evacuating people from the flooded Muthammal Colony in Thoothukudi.






Meanwhile, the first Indian Coast Guard ALH helicopter took off from Madurai early morning with 350 kg of material to be airdropped in rain-affected areas of Thoothukudi. The second helicopter also loaded with 350 kg of relief materials will take off shortly, reported ANI.






A few buildings were also seen to be submerged as the Tamraparni River in Tirunelveli was flooded due to heavy rains. Aerial view of flood in Srivaikuntam town of Thoothukudi district showed houses submerged in water.






Several parts of Tuticorin witnessed severe waterlogging following heavy rainfall in the region. Areas near the district court are also inundated. In Tirunelveli, heavy rains created flood-like situations.
