A 7-month pregnant woman, en route to her baby shower in Ullundurpettai fell from a moving Kollam-Sankarankovil Express train on Thursday. While attempting to vomit on the train staircase, reports indicated that she lost her balance and fell off. The fall resulted in a head injury which led to her death on the spot.
The victim, Kasthuri (21) married Suresh Kumar of Tenkasi eight months ago. She along with her 11 family members reached Chennai Egmore railway station and took Kollam-Sankarankovil Express train on Thursday evening.
When the train was crossing Kallakurichi district, Kasthuri developed uneasiness and felt nauseous. She rushed to the steps of the train and tried to vomit. However, at the same time, she reportedly felt dizzy and fell on the ground from the stairs of the moving train, according to a report on ABP Nadu.
In the impact, she reportedly suffered a head injury and died on the spot.
Meanwhile, allegations regarding the train's emergency mechanism failure surfaced. As per reports, the family members claimed that when relatives pulled the chain, it did not work. Subsequently, they said that they hurried to the next compartment to activate the emergency device. It's further alleged that the train swiftly covered a distance of 8 kilometers from the incident spot within a short span.
The police took the body of the woman to Virudhachalam Government Hospital for postmortem.
Based on the complaint, the Railway Police have registered a case and investigations are on.
