Tamil Nadu: Decomposed Body Of Woman Recovered Days After Death As Daughters Pray For Her To ‘Resurrect’

Manapparai police inspector Karunakaran said that the women had argued that their mother was alive even after doctors performed the post-mortem.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu police on Saturday recovered the decomposed body of an elderly woman from a house at Sokkampatti village in Trichy after her two daughters sat with the body claiming that they were praying to ‘resurrect’ their mother.

According to a report in IANS, police said that the incident occurred late on Friday evening near Manapparai in Trichy district and the deceased was expected to be 78 years old.

An official informed that the police department received information from unidentified persons that a foul smell had been emanating from a house where a retired woman teacher B Mary had died recently. Alerted, police officials rushed to the spot but the deceased’s daughters - B Jayanthi, 43, and B Jacintha, 40 - refused to allow the police officials inside the house.

The police in turn had informed the village administrative officer who rushed to the spot. The official then warned the women that they would break open the door if they continued to refuse to open the door.

As per the IANS report, a senior police official said that the women had allegedly informed the police that they could not allow them to enter inside the house as their mother’s soul would be hurt if they entered.

After continuous perusal, the women had allowed the police personnel to enter inside the house. The officials in turn had found the body of their mother in a decomposed state and their mother was suspected to have died at least five days ago. Recovering the body, police took it to Manapparai government hospital for post-mortem.

Manapparai police inspector Karunakaran said that the women had argued that their mother was alive even after doctors performed the post-mortem. However, the deceased’s body was buried and arrangements were made to provide counselling to her daughters, he added.
