Chennai: With the introduction of mega vaccination camps, the number of people taking Covid-19 vaccination has increased significantly and more than one crore people had taken their jabs against Covid-19 in September in Tamil Nadu, said Health Minister Ma Subramanian on sunday.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting vaccination camps in Trichy, the minister said that as many as 17,19,544 people took the vaccine on Sunday and of whom, 9,68,010 people took their first dose while the remaining 7,51,534 people took their second dose.
Quoting the minister, a report in the Hindu said that even though people had turned up at the vaccination camps despite heavy rainfall, the downpower in over 16 districts has impacted the performance in certain areas.
The report said that as many as 24,882 camps were organized at various places including government hospitals, schools, anganwadi centres and primary health centres across the state on Sunday.

The minister, according to the report, said that the Chief Minister MK Stalin had contacted district collectors to make sure that awareness was being created among the public to encourage them to take vaccines. We have been planning to continue the mega vaccination drives in the coming days, he added.
Explaining that Trichy district has exceeded the state’s average of number of people who took the first dose of vaccine against Covid-19 infection, he said that while the percentage of people who took their first dose in the state is 62, percentage of people who took their first dose in Trichy is 63.
