Chennai: A day after Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi returned a Bill passed in the state's Assembly against NEET, the DMK legislators took the issue to the Rajya Sabha and demanded a discussion on the issue in the Parliament. However, as they did not receive the nod for their demand the leaders staged a walkout.
According to a report on The New Indian Express, as the issue was ongoing at the Rajya Sabha, DMK MP Wilson moved a private member Bill in the Parliament seeking to amend the Seventh Schedule of Constitution of India and moved the Bill under state List.
The Bill said, the state government should have equal power to regulate education and admission to public and private educational institutions since several states have high literacy rates through dedicated investment in education.

The Bill said, only state governments can ensure equal access to education at the grassroot level. Hence permitting education to remain in Concurrent List can cause a grave threat to the country's federal system.
Education was moved to Concurrent List from State List during Emergency.
As Tamil Nadu leaders are set to meet in an all-party meet for NEET in the state on Saturday especially with the demand of DMK leaders to recall the Governor, RN Ravi is scheduled to visit New Delhi on February 7 to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The Governor is expected to inform them about the developments related to the NEET Bill.
