New Delhi: In an encounter in early Saturday morning in Srinagar, the armed forces have neutralised two militants. According to the Kashmir Zone Police, the killed militants were associated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and The Resistance Front (TRF) which are known to be terror outfits.

The police also recovered two pistols among other incriminating materials after the encounter. The encounter took place in Srinagar’s Zakura area on Saturday.

One of the killed has been identified as Ikhlaq Hajam who was involved in the killing of HC Ali Mohammad Gannie at Hassanpora Anantnag. Head Constable Gannie was shot at by the suspected militants on January 29 and later succumbed to the injuries on his way to the hospital.

The IGP Kashmir informed about the encounter via the official Twitter handle of Kashmir Zone Police. “#SrinagarEncounterUpdate:  02  #terrorists of terror outfit LeT/TRF #neutralised by Srinagar Police. This is not the first of its kind incident this year. On February 3, the police had arrested another militant from Bandipora in the Chandargir Hajin area. The police had recovered arms and munitions from him as well.

Recently, Minister of State (Home), Nityanand Rai had said in the Rajya Sabha that post the abrogation of Article 370, as many as 439 terrorists have been neutralised. During this period, around 541 attacks have been recorded in the union territory.
