Chennai: An unidentified man was lynched for reportedly barging into a house of an elderly woman and attacking her with wooden logs in Thiruvallangadu of Tiruvallur district on Tuesday. Reports suggest that the man tortured the woman who was alone at her home since she refused to earlier provide him with food.

According to a report in the Times of India, the unidentified man first came to the house of Arul Murugan (46) of Thozhudhavur on Tuesday and urged him to provide food. However, as Arul and his mother, D Saraswathi were puzzled with the identity of the stranger they refused to provide him with food.

After a while, Arul went out of his home for work when suddenly the miscreant gained access and entered the home.

He then tied the woman to a chair and hit her with a wooden log. Saraswathi immediately raised a hue and cry. Following this, her neighbours rushed to the spot but the man escaped even before that.

The neighbours helped Saraswathi and later took her to the hospital. The seriously injured Saraswathi continues to remain critical, as per the report.

Against this backdrop, the villagers immediately decided to look out for the man. After a search, they found him but he refused to disclose his identity.

Hence, they tied him up and beat him to death. On hearing about the turn of events, Thiruvalangadu police rushed to the spot and started the inquiry.

The police are yet to ascertain the identity of the miscreant. However, the police said that they suspect the man to be mentally depressed.
