Tamil Nadu Introduces Teaching At Home Scheme For Differently-Abled Children
The motive behind the scheme was that no child should be left out from studying and to provide special education along with treatment.
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday announced a new scheme for teaching differently-abled children In their homes. Under the scheme, physiotherapy would also be conducted on these children.
According to a report from IANS, a statement from the office of Tamil Nadu school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said that a sum of Rs 7.8 crore is earmarked for the scheme under which, a large number of differently-abled children would be benefitted.
The report said that the scheme would support the children who are below 18 years and could not attend schools due to multiple disabilities, intellectual disabilities or cerebral palsy that are considered as high supportive needs.

The statement said, according to the report, each student would be allotted a sum of Rs 10,000 for their supportive needs. Under the scheme, trained therapists and special educators would visit the beneficiaries’ houses to train them and the government would extend all the necessary support, the report added.

The education department, the report said, is also in the process of translating various books from multiple languages in Tamil to assist those pursuing higher education in Tamil medium and the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation would publish the translated books. A sum of Rs 2 crore is being allocated for the same, the report added.
Quoting the statement, the report said that the department would also be bestowing three children aged below 18 years with Kavimani award along with a cash prize worth Rs 25,000 and a citation.
