New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has written a letter to President Droupadi Murmu alleging that Governor R N Ravi has instigated communal hatred and that he is a "threat" to the state's peace.
In a letter dated July 8, 2023, Stalin said that Ravi has violated the oath of office he took under Article 159 of the Constitution.
"Ravi is stoking communal hatred and he is a threat to Tamil Nadu's peace," Stalin said in the letter.
Taling to Twitter, Stalin wrote, "I have written to Hon'ble @rashtrapatibhvn apprising about the unconstitutional functioning of the Tamil Nadu Governor, his disregard for elected government and the state legislature, and overreach in state affairs. The Governor's acts of delaying assent to bills, interfering with police investigations, and promoting divisive ideologies are a threat to democracy. I trust the Hon'ble President will take appropriate action to protect the spirit of our Constitution."
The chief minister in the letter targeted the Governor for dismissing Minister V Senthil Balaji from the Cabinet. The Governor backtracked from his move but Stalin said it was a political slant.
Reacting to CM MK Stalin's letter to President, DMK TKS Elangovan told ANI, "An elected government has to function as per the wishes of the people who have elected it, they cannot function as per the wishes of the Governor who was appointed."
The letter said that Ravi delayed sanction to prosecute former ministers in the previous AIADMK regime but through his hasty action in Balaji's matter -- against whom only now a probe has begun -- he has displayed his political inclinations.
"By way of his behaviour and action, the Governor has proved to be partial and ineligible to hold the office of Governor; Ravi is fit to be removed from the high office."
Stalin told Murmu that he was leaving the matter -- of removing Ravi from office -- to her, to decide whether Tamil Nadu Governor's continuation in office would be desirable or suitable considering the sentiments and dignity of the founding fathers of India's Constitution.
