Chennai: Tamil Nadu government notified India’s first Slender Loris Sanctuary set up at 11,806 hectares in Karur and Dindigul districts.

On Wednesday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's office said, “Happy to announce that the Government of Tamil Nadu has notified India’s first “Kadavur Slender Loris Sanctuary” covering an area of 11,806 hectares in Karur & Dindigul districts."

  


"The sanctuary will play an important role in the conservation of Slender Loris and yet another milestone in TN's conservation efforts," the CMO said.

Slender Loris is an endangered nocturnal mammal and it will spend most of its life on the trees. They spend their life for 15 years and they feed on insects, reptiles, fruits and plants. 


In west Tamil Nadu, illegal poaching of slender lorises is on the rise.
