Chennai: Five police personnel were transferred after they took part in a beauty pageant and walked the ramp recently. The Nagapattinam Superintendent of Police on Friday issued the order after the news of the police walking on a ramp in a police uniform went viral on social media.


According to a report on ANI, a high-profile beauty contest was held in Sembanarkovil of Mayiladuthurai district last Sunday. The event organised by Mayuraa, a modeling agency, also had participants including children to married women. The chief guest of the event was actress Yashika Anand who inaugurated the show.


After the participants walked the ramp, the organisers called the cops who were pressed into service for ensuring law and order in the event to walk in the ramp. Though the five cops initially resisted, they landed in trouble after they started to walk on the ramp for the beats of "Singham" song.

Later, the video of the ramp also went viral on social media and received flak from a section of people. 


Following this, ANI said, Nagapattinam District Superintendent of Police Jawagar issued an order to transfer the police personnel identified as Special Assistant Inspector Subramaian belonging to Sembanarkovil Police Station Renuka, Ashwini, Nithyaseela and Sivanesan.

After the video, SSI Subramanian was transferred to Manalmedu station while Renuka was transferred to Mayiladuthurai station, Nithya Seela to Kuttalam station, Aswini to Sirkazhi station and Srinivasan to Kollidam station. 


The SP's office told DT Next that the action was taken since the ramp walk would amount to breach of duty and all the five personnel have been told to report to duty at the transferred stations with immediate effect.
