At least three persons lost their lives in a stone quarry explosion near Kariapatti in Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday. The blast was captured on a CCTV camera. The preliminary inquiry revealed that the blast occurred at the storage room which contained explosives. 


Based on a tip-off, the rescue workers immediately rushed to the spot and attempted to rescue the people. 




According to ANI, Virudhunagar Fire and Rescue Department said, "At least three people died in an explosion that occurred in a stone quarry near the Kariapatti area of Virudhunagar district, this morning. Rescue operation is underway."

According to police officials speaking to IANS, two trucks utilized for transporting granites were completely destroyed in the explosion. Virudhunagar district in Tamil Nadu is recognized as the fireworks capital of the country and hosts the highest number of firework factories in the state.


The convenor of Arappor Iyakkam, Jayaram Venkaesan said, "The news is coming out that 3 people have died due to explosion of explosives in Kariyapatti Aviyur quarry of Virudhunagar. A state level special committee should be formed and violations should be documented in all the quarries of Virudhunagar!"














In February, an explosion at a firework factory in Virudhunagar district resulted in the death of 10 individuals. According to local reports, the blast was so powerful that it resulted in the destruction of four buildings, including the firecracker factory, in its vicinity. The place also functioned with a license, according to Virudhunagar Collector.
