Chennai: A Class 6 Irular boy from Tindivanam was allegedly pushed into a fire by his classmates at a cemetery near Tindivanam on Monday. The boy who suffered burn injuries was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.
According to a report on The New Indian Express, the police filed a case under sections of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The police have also kept Kattusiviri village under vigil to avoid any untoward incident.
The father of the boy Kanniappan said that Sundaraj had tried to wash the burns at the graveyard but the injuries were serious. Hence, two of the three classmates, left him home without informing his mother.

However, he said, when his mother saw Sundaraj with the wound she immediately took him to a PHC in Manampoondi and later to Tindivanam Government Hospital.
The father also went on to name three students including Balamurugan, Diwakar and Kishore and said that he had earlier complained to the headmaster about the caste discrimination faced by his son several times. However, no action had been taken which now resulted in such an incident.

VCK district secretary E Seran and Tindivanam constituency secretary M Bhoobal said, the boy had suffered less than 18% injuries but there are no serious injuries.
He also urged district Collector to promote Sundaraj to the next class since he will not be able to attend the exams.
