Chennai: The DMK-led government presented its first full-fledged budget after a gap of 10 years in Fort St. George from 10 AM on Friday.

After the win of DMK government in May 2021, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan presented his first interim e-budget in August 2021. The budget to be presented on Friday was the second e-budget to be presented by the Palanivel Thiaga Rajan. The Finance Minister ended his budget speech in 111 minutes.

Some of the important mentions that were expected in the budget include an announcement about payment of Rs 1,000 for women family heads, LPG cylinder subsidy of Rs 100, monthly billing for power consumption, waiver of student's education loans among others. 


However, the state government said the revenue deficit was reduced to Rs 55,000 crore from Rs 58,692 crore. The FM said, a special social media monitoring cell will be set up to monitor hate speech and misinformation. The FM said, the state will provide assistance to students who returned from Ukraine to pursue medicine. The state launched Singara Chennai 2.0 scheme to revamp the facilities in Chennai and also allocated funds to revamp DMK-government's Samathuvapuram project.

The DM also announced assistance for female students by renaming Moovalur Ramamirtham marriage scheme. He announced industrial parks and financial park in the state.
