Chennai: Tamil Nadu skipped National Education Ministers' Conference that started in Gujarat on Wednesday over National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Both Tamil Nadu Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and Department Secretary skipped the event on Wednesday.
According to a report on New Indian Express, a two-day National School Education Ministers' Conference is being held under the chairmanship of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in Gujarat for strengthening the education ecosystem of India and implementing NEP.
However, the DMK-led government had been opposing NEP and demanding to withdraw the NEP from the time it was introduced by the Centre.

Recently, the controversy over NEP intensified after PM Modi's visit to Chennai since he said that NEP will be beneficial to the students of the state.
Following this, the statement soon led to a war of words between Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi and Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi.

On Wednesday, a school education department officials said, Tamil Nadu decided to boycott the meet to register its protest against NEP.
The Tamil Nadu government even on May 17, 2021 decided to boycott an online meet by Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on National Education Policy 2020. The state said that they are skipping the meet since the Centre did not get any favourable response to ministerial-level discussion on NEP.
Earlier to the meet, DMK government urged to hold a discussion on amending NEP.
