IAS officer Shiv Das Meena has been appointed as the chief secretary of Tamil Nadu. The IAS officer would succeed V Iraianbu. The announcement was made on Thursday. 


V Iraianbu is set to retire from service on Friday. 

In a government order, Chief Secretary to Government Irai Anbu said, "Thiru Shiv Das Meena, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department is transferred and posted as Chief Secretary to Government vice Dr. V. Irai Anbu, IAS, retiring from service on 30.6.2023 After Noon."


IAS officer Irai Anbu was born in a small village in Salem on September 16. He was born to the couple, Venkatachalam and Baby Saroja, who encouraged him to study. He was a student of agriculture and completed his bachelor's from Tamil Nadu Agriculture University. He was also a university topper. He completed higher education in multiple fields including MA (English), MSc (Psychology) and MA (Labour Management). He also has three PhDs to his name in English, Comparative Literature and Business Administration. 


Shiv Das Meena from Rajasthan has a good rapport in New Delhi. This, according to sources in DMK, was one of the reasons for considering him as the new Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu, as per IANS.

In 1985, Irai Anbu cleared the civil services examination and ranked 15th in the All India level. He took first place in Tamil Nadu.
After clearing the exams, Irai Anbu joined into Indian Revenue Service. He was trained as Income Tax Assistant Commissioner. 


He then became Deputy Collector of Nagapattinam district in 1990. He converted a fishing hamlet near Villupuram into a model village. However, tsunami wreaked havoc but he still rebuilt the village. He has worked extensively in stopping the smuggling of Silica sand.
