Chennai: A sanitary worker of Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) was arrested for sexually harassing a 49-year-old woman admitted for kidney ailment related treatment in the hospital on Monday. The incident took place while she was recovering from the surgery on Thursday.


According to a report on New Indian Express, the survivor visited the hospital on June 27 and underwent surgery on June 30. She was then shifted to ward 203 in tower-2 for further treatment.


However, on Thursday, the accused identified as Pazhani, a permanent staffer at the hospital, entered the room of the survivor while she was alone at 11 pm on Thursday. He then suddenly started sexually harassing her but the woman was unable to respond since she was under the influence of her medication.

The accused then immediately fled the place.


However, the survivor later informed the nurses and then gave a complaint to the police. Based on the complaint, police booked a case under sections including outraging a woman's modesty under Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, 1998.

The police then cracked the case using CCTV visuals. The cops narrowed down on the accused and traced him to his house in Triplicane.


They then arrested him and remanded him in judicial custody. 


On November 18, 2021, two doctors of RGGGH were arrested for raping one of their colleagues and molesting another colleague while they were kept in a hotel for quarantine during COVID-19 duty.
