Rohini Cinema Staff In Chennai Refuses Tribal Family To Watch 'Pathu Thala' Movie, Allows Them After Backlash

While the tribes said that they were denied entry despite having tickets, Rohini Cinemas alleged that they refused since 'Children below age of 12 cannot be permitted to watch movie certified as U/A'.

After a staff member of Rohini Silver Screens refused to permit members of a particular tribe to enter the theatre, the management of the cinema hall in a clarification said that they allowed them after it was brought to their notice. Earlier, a staff member did not permit the tribes even after they had the required tickets for the movie.

On Thursday, a family of Narikuravars, a scheduled tribe community, visited Rohini Silver Screen to watch actor Simbu's ‘Pathu Thala’ movie but the family was stopped by a staff member. The movie buffs immediately intervened and told the staff to permit them. Yet, they reportedly did not allow them.

Following this, an argument ensued between the theatre staff and the movie buffs. At the same time, a visual of the incident was also shared online. The video soon started doing the rounds and the netizens conveyed their support to the tribes.

Subsequently, Rohini issued a statement clarifying that the tribes were allowed on time for the show after the incident was brought to their notice.

In the statement, Rohini's management said, "A few individuals along with their children with valid tickets have sought entry to the cinema to watch 'Pathu Thala' movie. As we know, the movie is censored U/A by the authorities. Children below the age of 12 cannot be permitted to watch any movie that is certified U/A as per the law."

"Our ticket checking staff has denied entry on this basis to the family who had come with children aged 2, 6, 8 and 10," it said.

The management said: "However since the audience gathered turned into a frenzy and took a different perspective of the situation without full understanding, in order to avert any law and order problem and to desensitise the matter, the same family was allowed entry to watch the movie on time."

Originally, U/A certification is provided so that children below 12 years of age can watch the movie under parental guidance.
