Three Sri Lankan ex-convicts of Rajiv Gandhi assassination case returned to their home country on Wednesday. Nearly two years after their release by the Supreme Court, three Sri Lankan nationals including Nalini's husband Muguran, Robert and Jayakumar reached the island nation. The three members previously served a three-decade prison sentence for their involvement in the former Prime Minister's assassination.
According to ANI, Rajiv Gandhi assassination case convicts- Muguran, Robert and Jayakumar deported to Sri Lanka from Chennai airport this morning. Murugan, Jayakumar and Robert were staying in the Trichy refugee camp.
Officials stated that three men departed for Colombo aboard a Sri Lankan carrier.
Nalini was at the airport to see off her husband.

Earlier, Nalini had also petitioned the court, requesting authorities to allow her husband to appear before the Sri Lankan High Commission in the city with an escort to obtain an 'all-country passport'. She explained that the couple aimed to reunite with their daughter, currently residing in the UK.
In November 2022, seven convicts were released by the Supreme Court in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. Of the 7 convicts, four Sri Lankan nationals including Robert Payas, Santhan and Jayakumar were lodged in a special refugee camp in Trichy after their release from Puzhal prison in Chennai. In February this year, Santhan died due to cardiac arrest at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. Later, his body was taken to Colombo from Chennai.
Perarivalan, Ravichandran and Nalini were the remaining people who served their prison term for over 30 years.
