Chennai: A 10-kilometre-long journey through forests and a waterway has become a monthly routine for a postman Cristhraj who is enduring the hardships to help and distribute pension for an elderly beneficiary in Papanasam of Tirunelveli district. For the past five months, 55-year-old Cristhraj travels all the way to hand over the pension for 104-year-old Kuttiyammal.

Five months back, 104-year-old Kuttiyammal petitioned Tirunelveli District Collector to provide pension. Following the demand, the Collector sanctioned pension to Kuttiyammal and Mayileru Post office employee Christhraj was entrusted with the job to hand over the money. From that month, Christhraj has been crossing a forest and a waterway with the help of a boat for 10 kilometers to give the pension sum.

This August too, despite being a Sunday which was his day off, Cristhraj attended his work and distributed the pension for the elderly woman by receiving special permission from the Forest Department.

A video from the village also emerged on Sunday showing Christhraj travelling on a bus, a boat and climbing a hill to reach the hamlet located in interior parts of the districts. On his arrival, the elderly woman and a lone occupant of the home, welcomed him. Later, Christhraj received her signature and handed over the cash.
