Ponniyin Selvan 1 opened for a blockbuster start with theaters witnessing the highest pre-booking across Tamil Nadu. On Thursday, the fans gave it a grand welcome and gathered in huge numbers at 4 am outside the famous theatres in Chennai to witness the historical epic film.
In a tweet, ANI said, “Fans across the state celebrate the release of film director Mani Ratnam's #PonniyinSelvan1 as they gather in huge numbers outside Rohini Silver Screens movie theatre in Chennai's Koyambedu.”
“Visuals from Madurai show fans offering milk to actor #Karthi's poster, bursting crackers,” it said.

The magnum opus also received a great opening in USA. In the US, Ponniyin Selvan 1 gained $500k from 282 locations.
Ponniyin Selvan is a two-part movie and the first part Ponniyin Selvan 1 released on Friday. The movie features Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, Prabhu, Parthiban, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Jayaram.

Meanwhile, the directors, actors and other industry people hailed the movie. Director Vignesh Shivan who saw the film took to social media and said, "History created by legends with a big bunch of great talents!
