Chennai: Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin on Tuesday reassured to Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan that all the aspects of Mullaperiyar Dam is safe. Stalin also said that the dam management team of Tamil Nadu is focused on taking all precautionary measure to ensure safety of the people living near the dam.
In a letter to his Kerala counterpart Pinarayi Vijayan, MK Stalin said, "I wish to reassure you that Mullaperiyar Dam is safe in all aspects & its flood regulation is being done as per the Rule curve and gate operation schedule approved by Central Wafer Commission in February 2021."
On the opening of the spillway shutters, CM Stalin said, "The spillway shutters were opened on August 5 at 1 pm from then onwards the spillway discharge was stepped up incrementally considering the variation in inflows, carefully avoiding sudden releases."

"As on August 8, 2022 at 7 am, the water level of dam stands at 138.85 feet and the average inflow was 6942 cusecs with a spillway discharge of about 5000 cusecs. This is done in total conformity with the approved rule curve," he said.
Further, Stalin said: "Our dam management team is very focused on the precautionary measures to be taken on time for ensuring the safety of the people residing downstream of the Mullaperiyar dam."

The letter of TN CM Stalin comes after Kerala CM's request to Stalin seeking his urgent intervention to regulate the water discharge from Mullaperiyar. Pinarayi sought the intervention in order to keep the reservoir's water level in safety threshold.
