In a veiled attack against PM Modi in connection with the grim situation in Manipur, Udhayanidhi said self-proclaimed 'Viswaguru' has failed miserably in restoring law and order in the northeastern state. The DMK leader also said that it was time for BJP governments in state and union to own the responsibility and save Manipur. During the run-up to the G20 Summit in India, posters across New Delhi hailed PM Modi as a Vishwaguru, a Sanskrit term for world guru or teacher to the world.
Moreover, Udhayanidhi made the statement days after his controversial remark on 'Sanatan Dharma' became a topic of debate across the nation.
According to ANI, Udhayanidhi Stalin said, "The ongoing violence in #Manipur is deeply worrying. The self-proclaimed 'Viswaguru' claiming to control everything has failed miserably in restoring law and order in Manipur."
"The resumption of internet services has exposed horrifying incidents like the killing of two Meiti students, shocking the whole nation in the process. Instead of curbing violence, the government has suspended internet services again. It's time the BJP governments in the state & union owned the responsibility & saved Manipur," he said.
On Monday, fresh protests started after photos of the bodies of two students who reportedly went missing in July went viral on social media. The deceased students were identified as Phijam Hemjit (20) and Hijam Linthoingambi (17).
In response, the government imposed a five-day internet service restriction again and said that all state-run schools would remain closed until Friday.
