Union Home Minister Amit Shah, President Droupadi Murmu and Delhi CM Kejriwal among other leaders condoled the death of passengers due to a fire accident in a stationary train at Madurai Railway Station in Tamil Nadu. Around nine passengers died and 20 others were injured after a gas cylinder which they lit to make tea in a compartment of a train allegedly burst on Saturday. The deceased persons were mostly from Lucknow who had come on a spiritual trip to Rameswaram.


Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, "Saddened by the tragic fire accident on a train in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. My deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones. Prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured."

He also conveyed the same message in Tamil.

President Droupadi Murmu said, "Deeply pained to learn about the tragic loss of lives in a fire accident in a stationary train near Madurai junction, Tamil Nadu. I express my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured."


Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi said, "Received the sad news of death of many passengers due to fire in Lucknow-Rameshwaram train. My deepest condolences to all the bereaved families. May God give them courage in this hour of grief. I pray that the injured get speedy recovery."


Delhi Chief Minister Aravind Kejriwal said that he would pray to god that all injured would return to their families. He said, "Deeply saddened to know about the train fire accident. My condolences to the families of the deceased. I pray to God that all the injured get well soon and return to their families."


 




Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, "The loss of lives in the unfortunate train accident in Madurai, Tamil Nadu is extremely sad and heart-wrenching. My condolences are with the bereaved families. Instructions have been given to provide an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of the persons of Uttar Pradesh who died in this accident."









 






 

Meanwhile, TMC leaders insisted railway authorities be more vigilant and do away with a "callous" attitude. 


West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said, "Another devastating incident in railways, this time at Madurai ( Tamilnadu) today , involving a massive fire in a train, and leading to at least 9 shocking and tragic deaths and minimally 20 critical injury cases ! While I convey my condolences to the families of the deceased & pray for the injured, expect that inquiries would fix responsibilities soon. May I also urge the railway authorities to be more vigilant and less callous about safety and human lives?"
 

"Only event management and PR is happening on Railways. Rail safety is in a mess," alleged TMC MP Derek O'Brien.
