Some of the women workers of Haritha Karma Sena, a green army working under the Parappanangadi Municipality in Malappuram, tried their luck in the lottery and ended up winning a whopping Rs 10 crore jackpot in Kerala. Eleven women workers of Haritha Karma Sena find it difficult even to afford Rs 25 tried to pool money to buy lottery tickets priced at Rs 250. This was their fourth attempt in buying a lottery.


According to PTI, one of the workers even borrowed from her acquaintance to pay for the ticket. 


On Wednesday, Kerala lottery Department organised a draw and soon announced the winners of the monsoon lottery of a whopping Rs 10 crore. MB200261 was the winning ticket in the BR-92 lottery draw. 


Radha, who bought the ticket, said, We have purchased lottery tickets before by pooling money. But this is the first time we have won a mega prize."


Another woman said that her happiness knew no bounds when they got to know that they hit the jackpot. 


She said, "All of us are facing hardships in life and the money will be a relief to some extent to solve our problems."


The women even have a difficult time to make their ends meet. They were all dependent on the salary paid to them by Haritha Karma Sena. 


The Haritha Karma Sena collects non-biodegradable waste from homes and businesses, which is then transferred to recycling shredding units.


Sheeja, the chairman of Haritha Karma Sena consortium at the Municipality, as per the report, said, "The lady luck smiled on the most deserving people this time. Many have debts to pay have daughters to marry off or have to meet the treatment expenditure of near ones. They are living in very humble households fighting harsh realities of life."
