AIADMK Leaders Evicted From Tamil Nadu Assembly After Chaos Over Hooch Tragedy: WATCH

Tamil Nadu Hooch Tragedy: Despite Speaker M Appavu’s warnings of expulsion, the AIADMK members continued their protest, leading to their removal from the Assembly.

The second day of the Tamil Nadu Assembly session began tumultuously as Opposition parties, led by the AIADMK, demanded an immediate discussion on the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy on Friday. The AIADMK leaders clad in black outfits entered the Assembly showing solidarity to victims in Kallakurichi.

Despite Speaker M. Appavu’s warnings of expulsion, the AIADMK members continued their protest, leading to their removal from the Assembly. Earlier, the Speaker assured that Tamil Nadu CM Stalin would provide an explanation regarding the measures taken in Kallakurichi Hooch tragedy after the question hour. However, the AIADMK workers continued their protest.

Outside the Assembly, Tamil Nadu Opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami stated: "So far, 146 people have been affected by illicit liquor, and 50 of them have died. We wanted to discuss this issue in the Assembly, but the Speaker denied us permission. This is a shocking incident. If we are not allowed to address this matter, then our election as MLAs will be pointless."

"That's why we wanted to bring up the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy. This government did not even provide proper treatment for the victims. However, the Speaker removed us from the Assembly. We condemn this action. It feels like a dictatorship, akin to Hitler's rule," he said.

Edappadi Palaniswami asserted that Chief Minister Stalin should take responsibility for the tragedy and resign his post.

Assembly Pays Tribute to Kallakurichi Victims

On the first day of the session, the Tamil Nadu Assembly paid tribute to the victims of the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy, which claimed 49 lives. The session began with Speaker Appavu making obituary references to the deceased, including those who died in the Kuwait blaze and former legislators who had passed away. The members observed a minute's silence as a mark of respect on Thursday.

Expressing his shock over the illicit liquor deaths, Speaker Appavu stated that the state government was actively working to combat the sale of spurious liquor. Following the tragedy, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin had promptly initiated measures to provide medical treatment to those affected.

Speaker Appavu read out the condolence resolution, expressing profound shock and sorrow over the tragic deaths of innocent lives in both the Kallakurichi incident and the Kuwait blaze, which claimed the lives of seven individuals from Tamil Nadu. He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
