Chennai: Vanniyar Sangam president Pu.Tha. Arulmozhi approached a district court in Chidambaram against the makers of the movie Jai Bhim, including actor and producer Suriya, Jyothika and director TJ Gnanavel for allegedly making offensive remarks against the organisation.
According to ABP Nadu, the complaint has been lodged under Section 199 (6) of the CrPC and for charges including criminal intimidation and punishment for defamation under Indian Penal Code.
The lawyer appearing for the complainant in the court said, “The accused have produced the movie by retaining most of the characters with same real names while they deliberately changed the names of accused persons like the sub-inspector.”
The complainant stated that the accused in the original custodial torture case was Anthonysamy, who was a Christian by religion, but the movie showed that the accused person was speaking on the phone near a 1995 calendar with the symbol of Agni Gundam (symbol of Vanniyar Sangam) with the caption “Kshatriya Kula Muanadu, Villupuram”.
Further, the complainant said, “The scene exhibited the intention of the accused persons and of having malafide intention for defaming the members of Vanniyar Sangam and damaging the image and reputation of the entire Vanniyar community.”
The complainant added that the makers deliberately named the person “Gurumurthy” and referred to him as Guru, which resembled one of the frontline leaders of Vanniyar Sangam, J Guru.
Citing their grievances, the complainant requested the court to take up the case and punish the accused on charges of defamation.
