aChennai: Tamil Nadu Minister Gingee Masthan informed that thirteen techies who got duped in an illegal job scam in Thailand and got trafficked to Myanmar arrived in Chennai on Wednesday. 


Addressing the press, the Minister said, thirteen people who were duped into an illegal job racket via agents in different parts of the state arrived in Chennai on Wednesday. The people who reached Thailand were trafficked to Myanmar and were forced to work illegally.


He said, Tamil Nadu CM Stalin took efforts to save them and they are putting efforts to bring back another 50 Tamils stranded in Myanmar. 


One of the victim said that they were illegally made to cross a river by a group of Chinese people and their phones were seized. They were not given their VISA and they were tortured to work for 15-16 hours."


In a series of tweets, Arindam Bagachi, official spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs said, "We have been actively pursuing the case of Indians being trapped in fake job rackets in Myanmar. Thanks to the efforts of @IndiainMyanmar & @IndiainThailand, around 32 Indians had already been rescued. Another 13 Indian citizens have now been rescued,& reached Tamil Nadu today (Wednesday)."


“Some more Indian citizens have been rescued from their fake employers and are in custody of Myanmar authorities for illegal entry into that country. Legal formalities have been initiated to get them repatriated at the earliest,” he said.

MEA spokesperson also said, “Details of agents allegedly involved in this job racket have been shared with relevant authorities in various States in India for appropriate action.”
