Chennai: The police arrested three Hindu Munnani functionaries for threatening a beef stall employee on Tuesday in Periyanaickenpalayam. The three functionaries who were under the influence of alcohol allegedly went to the shop and warned the employee against operating the stall.
The three arrested accused were identified as M Murugan, R Shanmugathan and B Vinoth, all were Hindu Munnani employees.
According to a report on the Times of India, three inebriated functionaries went to a beef stall and demanded the employee of the stall to close the shutters. They also warned him against operating the beef stall.
The employee immediately contacted the owner Mohammed Sikkandar who was not present at the shop.

Following this, Mohammed Sikkandar informed the police.
The police picked up the functionaries who were still present at the stall and took them to the station for questioning. Based on a complaint from Sikkandar, the police later arrested them under charges of trespassing and wrongful restraint of the Indian Penal Code.

The accused were produced before the judicial magistrate and were lodged in jail.
Last month, a food stall "Thanthai Periyar" which was named after EV Ramasamy Periyar, the father of Dravidian movement, and set to open in Coimbatore was vandalised by Hindu Munnani workers.
The Hindu Munnani workers visited Prabhakaran's shop and said that he cannot use the name of Periyar in Karamadai, Coimbatore.
They also allegedly asked the owner how he can open an eatery in the name of Periyar in a "Hindu fortress" (Coimbatore). They then beat him and vandalised the eatery.
Based on a complaint from Prabhakaran, police filed a complaint and arrested six Hindu Munnani workers.
