Chennai: India is set to host a Chess Olympiad tournament for the first time in its history from July 28 to August 10 in Chennai. The 44th Chess Olympiad 2022 will be inaugurated by PM Modi in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Thursday and the tournament will be held till August 10 at Poonjeri village in Mamallapuram.The championship was originally scheduled to take place in Russia but due to Russia-Ukraine war, International Chess Federation (FIDE) decided to change the location. Among the bidders, India emerged a topper and got the opportunity to host the high-profile event. Later, Union government awarded the rights to Tamil Nadu. Therefore, India has decided to field three teams each in the open and women's sections. The ticket price for Hall 2 is Rs 2,000 for one person while for a foreigner it is Rs 6,000. The ticket for Hall 1 with the top-ranking team is Rs 3,000 and foreigners need to pay Rs 8,000.
