After the recent stampede at New Delhi railway station, a similar chaos was witnessed at Asansol railway station as thousands of passengers rushed to board trains heading to Prayagraj for the Kumbh Mela on Sunday. The incident has highlighted concerns about a similar tragedy that could occur in the future at any time.
Following the stampede tragedy that took place in New Delhi, the Eastern Railway officials launched special measures at Asansol station to manage the massive crowds. In order to alleviate the pressure, arrangements were made for passengers travelling for Kumbh Mela to sit outside the railway station.
However, as soon as the Asansol Mumbai Mail, which passes through Prayagraj Gramin, departed, chaos ensued among the waiting passengers. A rush to board the train resulted in overcrowding, underscoring the persistent challenges of handling large crowds during peak travel times. No injuries have been reported so far.
A similar incident was seen at the Patna railway station in Bihar where passengers were trying to board Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express on Sunday.
