Chennai Receives 100 Cm Rainfall In November: Third Time In 100 Years

Till now, the capital city has received 100 cm of rainfall in November.

Chennai: The Northeast monsoon continues to pound all over Tamil Nadu and has resulted in flash floods in Chennai for the second consecutive time within a month. Till now, the capital city of TN has received 100 cm of rainfall in November and the weathermen say that the record rainfall has taken place only for the third time in 100 years. 

According to a report on Times of India, the India Meteorological Department continued to forecast widespread rainfall on Saturday and the rains are expected to continue till November 29. Due to the rains, over 11,000 people were shifted to 123 relief camps in Chennai. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin also inspected inundated homes in T Nagar on Saturday night.  

After the visit, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin said, "In Chennai, meteorologists say this is the fourth time in the last 200 years that 1000 mm of rainfall has been recorded in a single month. The government is committed to preventing casualties even in such heavy rains and to minimize property damage."

"The whole reason for keeping the situation is under control is because of the efforts of all the departmental officials, including the corporation, the power sector, the public works department, the revenue department and the police, who have been working tirelessly all day in the pouring rain. It is not enough no matter how much we thank them," the Chief Minister said. 

Further, Stalin urged the people's representatives and government officials to continue their work from the field as it has been reported that heavy rains will continue for the next few days. He also assured that the Chief Minister will stand with them in the field.
