Chennai: Fruits and vegetable vendors in the city have hiked prices by 20 per cent and they say the public has to bear with the hike till the situation gets normal in the neighboring states that supply commodities to the local market.
The incessant heavy rains in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have affected the prices of basic commodities like fruits and vegetables in Tamil Nadu. Due to heavy rainfalls in the neighboring states, crops are said to have been damaged due to which the supply of fruits and vegetables has been cut short.
As per the reports, fruits rates increased by 20 per cent while vegetables went to 30 per cent high in Chennai wholesale market.
Besides, as the malls and temples started reopening, the state sees a slight boost in the business after a month. However, prices are said to be fluctuating till the rain stops, reports dtnext.
